Know Who You Are Dealing With

Traditional due diligence establishes facts. Black Swan goes further.

Build the clearest possible picture before our client becomes exposed.

We combine verification, OSINT, asset validation, relationship mapping, behavioural analysis and
appropriate lawful HUMINT to understand the people, interests and relationships behind the facts.

VERIFY / MAP / INVESTIGATE / ANALYSE / DECIDE

From Information to Intelligence

We establish the facts, then widen the picture.

Identity and history. Corporate interests. Assets and ownership. Litigation and regulatory exposure. Business associates. Historic partners. Connected companies. Beneficial interests. Digital footprint. Reputation and behavioural patterns.

Where appropriate and lawful, HUMINT can provide context that documentary research alone cannot.

Does the story make sense? Who genuinely controls the company? Do the assets exist where claimed? Are important relationships undisclosed? What appears inconsistent? What are we missing?

The Black Swan Model

VERIFY – Establish the facts.

MAP – Identify the people, companies, assets and relationships surrounding the subject.

INVESTIGATE – Examine inconsistencies, history, exposure and reputation.

ANALYSE – Connect information that may appear insignificant in isolation.

ADVISE – Translate the intelligence into a decision.

Proceed. Investigate further. Restructure. Renegotiate. Protect. Or walk away.

Private Client Intelligence

Wealth Changes the Risk.

High-net-worth individuals frequently operate within environments built around privacy and trust: private members’ clubs, exclusive events, international travel, introductions through mutual contacts and social circles where wealth is normal.

These environments can create credibility simply through association.

But being in the right room does not necessarily make someone the right person.

Consider "Harry"

Harry was wealthy, successful and accustomed to high-net-worth social circles.

During difficulties in his marriage, he met a younger woman we will call Sally at an exclusive event. She appeared to belong. The relationship developed quickly.

Friends questioned her motives. Harry believed the relationship was genuine.

Then Sally told him she believed she was pregnant. Harry began supporting her: rent, car, living expenses and shopping.

Within approximately three months, around £65,000 had been spent. Then the pregnancy story collapsed. The relationship was not what Harry believed it to be.

A discreet and lawful intelligence review could potentially have examined identity, digital footprint, multiple profiles or identities, employment and lifestyle inconsistencies, relevant previous relationships, financial or legal warning signs, reputation and patterns of behaviour.

No single finding necessarily proves wrongdoing. The value lies in building an independent picture before financial, personal or reputational exposure becomes significant.

Corporate Intelligence

Understand the People Behind the Company.

Corporate records establish that a company exists. We want to understand what exists behind it.

  • Who actually controls the business?
  • What other companies surround the principals
  • What happened to previous ventures?
  • What litigation exists?
  • Are declared assets verifiable?
  • Are there undisclosed interests or relationships?
  • Does the reputation of the principals withstand independent scrutiny?

A company can look exceptional on paper. The people, assets and relationships behind it determine the reality.

HUMINT

Sometimes the Missing Context Is Human.

Databases tell us what has been recorded. Human sources can provide context.

A director may appear successful on paper while previous counterparties provide a more complicated picture. A corporate structure may appear straightforward while industry intelligence suggests control sits elsewhere.

Where lawful, proportionate and appropriate, Black Swan can use HUMINT alongside documentary and open-source intelligence to test assumptions.

Not gossip. Not speculation. Corroborated intelligence.

Find What Matters

The value of an intelligence assignment is not measured by the number of pages in the final report.

Sometimes hundreds of facts confirm what the client already knows. Sometimes one fact changes the decision.

An undisclosed relationship. An unexplained asset. A hidden beneficial interest. A litigation pattern. A discrepancy in someone’s history. A connection between parties who supposedly have no relationship.

The ultimate question isn’t: How much did we find?

It is: Does anything we found change what you should do next?
